After Calving......

windvalefarm

AI has started on the 1st of Nov (Artificial Insemination) some of the cows are artificially inseminated to ensure a more specific genetic for our herd replacement Holstein Freisan Ladies. We have natural mating with Wagyu bulls for our Holstein Freisan 2yr olds first time calving and we also follow up with Wagyu bulls for the cows that didnt come into cycle when we do AI for the first 3wks of Nov.

I have weaned our baby heifer herd replacements at a comfortable 120kg to give them a fantastic start in life and merged the two little mobs of 37 calves into one cute mob of 74 , later on they will move up to one of our nearby runoffs (another block of Dairy support land for grazing young and up and coming cows and we also cut Hay and Silage off them, That way our Dairy platform is free to feed our milking ladies and they dont have to walk too far to the cows shed)

We have a few late little baby calves still being born and I will feed them till weaning and then they will move off the farm and into the Wagyu beef programme.

We have been incredibly fortunate with all the warm weather and rain and the Farm is absolutely booming in grass growth, which is perfect for a silage cut we will be doing very soon and later a Hay cut so we are all set for next winter.
