Nearing the end of the milking season...

windvalefarm

We dry our ladies off the first week of June and they get a well deserved rest from early June through till early August. This gives them a break, holds condition on their bodies and allows the calves they are pregnant with a chance to grow and develop well.

We feed our ladies Kale/Swede winter crops and cart Silage (grass harvested earlier in the year and wrapped in a long wrap to keep the goodness and nutrients in) Keeping our girls well fed and warm is a big job and we have plenty of shelter belts planted all over the farm to act as windbreaks and they can tuck in underneath to shelter from the rain.
