Spraying the cows udder and teats after milking helps maintain a healthy environment and is proven to prevent/kill 50% of contagious bacteria and infectious organisms. We add extra glycerine to the teat spray which is a natural emollient (skin conditioner) this helps support the natural pH of the skins udder which is 6.6 This way we prevent Mastitis infections as much as possible and support the skins natural defence.
A well fed cow in a clean environment and thoroughly cleaning the milk shed after each milking is very important as well. We installed cup flushes several years ago that flush each set of cups after each individual cow has been milked. This prevents cross transfer between cows. Any Mastitis cows are separated and treated in a separate herd.
